On Thursday 15 October 2009 a large-scale mixed project for the North district of Brussels was presented by the City of Brussels. It aims at gathering a school, houses and spaces for early childhood consultations.

Project Simons-Anvers-Nicolay-Frontispice The government contract should be launched in some weeks after the approval of the project by the City Council on Monday 19 October. The Brussels region will first have 40 days to give its opinion. Various departments of the City of Brussels (Public education, Property Management Agency and Demography) are going to work together to create the new infrastructure. The surface is 10.200 m2 big and bounded by:

  • the Rue Simons [plan]
  • the Chaussée d'Anvers
  • the Rue Nicolay
  • the Rue Frontispice

On the spot, a school, houses and a common space for consultations on infants: one of the ONE (French-speaking), the other one of Kind and Gezin (Dutch-speaking). The global financial plan of this project is estimated at 20.400.000 euro.

The Héliport school

The Héliport school receives a new infrastructure in this project:

  • construction of a new nursery school (200 children instead of 132 at present) equipped with a room of psychomotricity, with a resting room, with new toilets, with a new dining hall, with a library,...
  • construction of an extension of the existing primary classes
  • construction of a new sporting hall
  • renovation of the existing building at the Rue Nicolay (8 classes for 2nd and 3rd degree of the primary school

51 houses

In this mixed project, 51 new houses will be created according to a precise distribution:

  • 15 % studios and apartments of 1 room
  • 60 % apartments of 2 rooms
  • 25 % apartments of 3 and 4 rooms

2 apartments of 4 rooms will be adapted for persons to reduced mobility. Car parks will be available for the inhabitants. Houses will also respect the standards in energy savings and sustainable development. The project also joins the 1000 housing Plan of the City (end of 2012).

Space of consultation for the ONE and Kind en Gezin

In this global project, the ONE which takes care of the accompaniment and the reception of children under the age of 12 and its Dutch-speaking equivalent Kind en Gezin will be gathered under the same roof. This nearness will allow to strengthen collobrations between these 2 community organisations. Besides its first mission of consultations, the space will also aim at facilitating the meetings between parents of different cultures.
