Aid and services for seniors

Several services provide daily aid to seniors in the City of Brussels.

The Seniors Aid Service, supported and funded by the City of Brussels, is intended to provide support via caregivers. The activities contribute to the daily well-being of seniors and persons with disabilities who live on the territory of the City of Brussels.

Different types of help are available:

  • Help with daily life (shopping, cooking, washing, housekeeping,...)
  • Administrative and budgetary support
  • Help in personal hygiene
  • Social support (counseling at the doctor,...)

How to apply?

Any senior who is disoriented or sick and living in isolation, whose spouse is mentally ill, sick, disabled or has a reduced mobility may use this service. An application must be made by telephone at 02 505 46 70 (Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm) or e-mail to info@aidefamiliale.be. A social worker will then carry out an investigation during a home visit before the application is accepted.

Rate

The aided person has to pay an hourly contribution which is calculated according to his or her income. He or she will thus have to give that information to the social worker who will make the visit.

Allowance for assistance to the elderly (APA-THAB)

The allowance for assistance to the elderly (APA-THAB) can be granted to people aged 65 and older who live in Brussels, have a low income and are faced with additional costs due to reduced self-reliance. Iriscare is responsible for granting this allowance in Brussels:

The 'BuurtPensioen - Pens(i)onQuartier' project wants to encourage people (regardless of their age and origin) to voluntarily support or care for other people in the quarter.

This includes tasks such as:

  • assisting in folding linen
  • occasionally making a trip or do some shopping
  • occasionally doing some paperwork
  • going by a neighbor for a chat
  • ...

The project is a collaboration between 'Kenniscentrum Welzijn, Wonen en Zorg' and the City of Brussels, and several neighborhood associations.
