Ans Persoons

Alderwoman for Dutch-language Affairs, District Contracts and Participation.

Ans Persoons, born in Antwerp, is a newcomer to the City Council. She studied history in Ghent and Political Science at Sciences Po in Paris. After wandering in several other cities, she found a home in Brussels.

The last seven years she worked at the Brussels - Europe Liaison Office on the integration of the international community in Brussels and strengthening the position of Brussels as a capital of Europe. She recently resigned to become a full-time Alderwoman.

According to Ans the biggest challenge for Brussels is to give to all young people in this city the opportunities they deserve to succeed in life. She is politically active because she feels that a society can not tolerate that a part of its population misses out. Therefore, she believes strongly in the district contracts, in which the city invests in its most vulnerable neighborhoods.

She also attaches great importance to public space - the space we all share - and she wants to redevelop more squares and streets, make them greener, and return the space to residents, pedestrians and cyclists. Ans lives in the Quais district, near the canal.
