Vesale Home welcomes people with dementia

The new specialized nursing home Vesale welcomes and assists people with dementia or a similar condition. It is a pioneering project in Belgium.

Following the legislative changes of 2009 on nursing homes standards, the External site CPAS of the City of Brussels decided to close the Pacheco Institute and to work out a project for the care of seniors with dementia.

Building with 8 floors

The Vesale Home is located in the former 'Fondations Réunies' building, an 8-storey building which was built in 1976 at the Rue des Alexiens. The new home, developed by a multidisciplinary working group, also has a privileged relationship with the CHU Saint-Pierre Hospital (César de Paepe site).

Open living spaces

The centre can accomodate 128 residents. Each floor (from the 1st to the 6th) is a living unit for 20 residents. This unit is built around an open living space with an open view towards outside.

The 7th floor - next to 8 rooms - also includes:

  • a large cafeteria
  • a large terrace with panoramic view
  • a fitness room
  • a hairdresser
  • a relax area, city garden, beehives on the roof
  • a reception room for private parties
  • children's playroom
