Bonus for a rainwater infiltration system

The City of Brussels gives its inhabitants (postal codes: 1000, 1020, 1120, 1130 Brussels) a bonus for a rainwater infiltration system.

The increasing urbanization of the Brussels Region in the 20th century has led to a considerable mineralization and impermeability of the territory. Currents are vaulted, ponds and swamps have been drained and replenished to be built. As a result, water has gradually disappeared from the landscape. These elements played an important role in flood management by absorbing rising waters during heavy rain showers. For some years, some collectors have become so saturated during heavy rainfall, causing flooding in the City of Brussels.

The design of rainwater management facilities helps to limit the impact of water on the sewerage network and at the same time it helps to increase the value of the landscape and the environment.

The City of Brussels awards a bonus for the installation of a rainwater infiltration system connected to a drainpipe. That system can be constructed differently depending on the type. Infiltration pits are not eligible for the premium because they can cause pollution problems with the groundwater. Different systems can be combined (rain garden).

The systems installed with exotic invasive plants are not eligible for this premium.

Amount of the bonus?

The amount of the municipal premium is set at 75% of the amount for the works with a maximum of 500 euros.

The premium is increased by 10% for works carried out by social economy companies, tailor-made companies or social integration companies.

The premium is increased by 10% for planting plants that are good for biodiversity (native plants, bee plants,...).

A single bonus is awarded per property and per 5-year period.

The intervention of the municipality may not be more than 100% of the investment.
