City of Brussels searches Halberdiers

The City of Brussels is looking for retirees to act as halberdiers (m/f/x) during wedding ceremonies. Send your application by 17 October 2021 at the latest.

The function of Halberdier is based on a long tradition in Brussels: in the distant past, the wedding hall was a court. The halberdiers were the guardians of this place at that time. Today they perform at civil wedding ceremonies. They wear a traditional costume in the colors of the City, decorated with the effigy of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula.

It is the duty of the Halberdier to welcome the jubilarians or future brides and grooms to the wedding hall, lead them in and seat them as well as their guests. He ensures that the premises and the security measures are respected.
