Earth Hour at the Grand-Place, Atomium and Bourse
On Saturday 23 March 2024, the City of Brussels will participate again in the Earth Hour event of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). From 8:30 pm, the lights of the City Hall, the facades of the Grand-Place and the Atomium will be switched off for an hour. A silent disco will be organised at the Bourse of Brussels.
What is Earth Hour?
For 18 years now, WWF has been calling on everyone to switch off the electricity for one hour on the last Saturday of March. In this way, the fund wants to draw attention to the importance of energy saving.
Silent disco at the Bourse
This year, WWF-Belgium and the City of Brussels have joined forces to organise a unique event to mark Earth Hour: a silent disco in the Bourse of Brussels, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
At 8:30 pm, the lights will go out to make way for a dance floor. DJs will be performing live in different headphone channels, so there will be something for every musical taste.
Actions by the City of Brussels?
Although Earth Hour is a rather symbolic action, the City of Brussels is also working to save energy each day by:
- insulating social housing
- detecting all kinds of leaks (water and energy)
- insulating the roofs of many public buildings and then installing solar panels
- greening the streets
