Exhibition. Arié Mandelbaum

From 16 September 2022 to 5 March 2023 at the Jewish Museum of Belgium.

The Jewish Museum of Belgium presents a unique exhibition of the Belgian painter Arié Mandelbaum. Arié Mandelbaum's work, which is often exhibited at home and abroad, has never been the subject of a retrospective. For the first time, old and new works are brought together in a rich dialogue, with some forty works from 1957 to 2016.

The son of Polish-Jewish immigrants, Arié Mandelbaum began painting at the age of 16. In 1960 he had his first solo exhibition, and five years later he won the prize of the Belgian Vocation Foundation. From the 1980s, the exaggerated expressionism of his early work was followed by a more subdued expression, leading to works of disturbing fragility that he still produces today.
