Coronavirus measures

The City of Brussels has taken several decisions in order to best respect the measures of the federal government in the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19). More info: coronavirus measures by the City of Brussels.


Face mask in Brussels (extended)

Since Wednesday 9 June 2021, wearing a face mask is mandatory in the City of Brussels at the Rue Neuve and at markets (from 12 years). The face mask has to cover the mouth and nose.

Wearing a mask is compulsory at the:

  • Rue Neuve
  • Anneessens market, Tuesday morning
  • Jeu de Balle flea market, from Monday to Sunday
  • organic market at the Place Sainte-Catherine, each Wednesday
  • Chaussée d'Anvers market, Wednesday morning
  • arts and crafts market (Place Agora), from Friday to Sunday
  • De Wand market, each Friday afternoon
  • Sablon Antiquities market, on Saturday and Sunday
  • Zero Waste market (place Sainte-Catherine), on Saturdays
  • Peter Benoit market, on Fridays
  • Bockstael market, Saturday morning
  • Square Marguerite market, Wednesday afternoon

Obligation in other places

Wearing a face mask is also mandatory in other places (by Ministerial Decree). The list of these places can be found here:

In the case of crowding in other places, it is safer to wear a mask if the distance between people cannot be maintained.
