Coronavirus measures

The City of Brussels has taken several decisions in order to best respect the measures of the federal government in the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19). More info: coronavirus measures by the City of Brussels. Please note: at the Administrative Centre & liaison offices, all citizens are asked to come alone, maximum 15 minutes before the appointment time, wear a face mask (obligatory) and disinfect their hands.

Immersion education at Charles Buls primary school

In September 2020, the City of Brussels will start with immersion education in Dutch at the French-language Charles Buls primary school. This form of education will start in the first year and progressively be extended to the 6th grade.

The project is part of the will to promote language learning, especially Dutch, by supporting new pedagogies. The goal is to achieve the bilingualism of tomorrow's citizens.

What is immersion education?

Immersion education immerses children in a different language. The children do not learn the language through vocabulary lists and grammatical rules, but rather in a fun and informal way. Without forcing them, they learn to speak another language: they will naturally do that, stimulated by listening, repetition and multilingual activities.

In these immersion education classes, 2 teachers, one French-speaking and the other Dutch-speaking, will work closely together to enable the child to learn both languages.
