Lecture. Lueur d'espoir dans le Quartier Nord

This event has already passed

On Tuesday 21 May 2019, at 6 pm, at the North Pole Centre - Centre Pôle Nord. In French.

Lecture Lueur d'espoir dans le Quartier Nord (A ray of hope in the North Quarter) about the history of the murals in the North Quarter of Brussels. In the 70s, a large part of the buildings of this quarter was demolished for the Manhattan project. François de Cugnac therefore set up a large project with murals in the neighborhood. Between 1977 and 1980 no fewer than 22 enormous murals were realized. It was the largest mural project in Europe at that time.

From 1987 to 1995, all the houses with these murals were demolished. 25 years later everyone had forgotten them. But Joris Sleebus has gradually reconstructed this history with a wide collection of images and testimonials.

Sleebus presents this lecture with extensive visual material as part of the North Quarter in Color initiative. Within that project, a new mural will be realized at the end of May 2019, on a wall of the building at the Chaussée d'Anvers 150.
