NEO project

What is it about?

The External site NEO project is the construction of a new quarter at the Heysel, at the foot of the Atomium. This human, economic, commercial, tourism, cultural, leisure and housing growth pole will enable 3000 jobs to be created in the long term. NEO means 590 homes, 2 nurseries, 1 retirement home, offices, 72,000 m² of commercial space, 9,000 m² of catering and leisure activities: a fully renovated mini Europe, Spirou Land, cinema halls and a partnership with the External site Cité des sciences et de l'industrie.

Next video shows the future NEO quarter (the video contains no dialogue or text, only a background music):

What purpose?

NEO must strengthen the international appeal of Brussels and provide a meeting place for people of Brussels, Belgians, Europeans and the rest of the world. NEO is a new gateway to Brussels, a 'transit space' between public transport and car traffic, with a central urban infrastructure. The site will be a bridge between urban centrality and balanced diversity: a mixed urban environment with international congresses, national events, activities, homes, shops, recreational and cultural facilities.
