A new school street at the Rue de Flandre
From 11 to 28 June 2019, the City of Brussels is testing a 2nd school street: the part of the Rue de Flandre between the Rue d'Ophem and the canal will be closed at certain times, just like the Rue de la Clé (the street between the Rue de Flandre and the Rue Dansaert).
When are the roads closed?
Only pedestrians and cyclists may enter the school street at the following hours:
- every weekday: between 8h and 9h and 15h15 and 15h45
- Wednesday: between 11h45 and 12h15
The driving direction at the Rue d'Ophem between the Rue de Flandre and the Rue Locquenghien is temporarily reversed to make this test phase possible. Cars parked in the street can get out at any time. If you have a garage at the places that are closed during these hours, you can still enter it. This test phase and the school street project will be evaluated afterwards.
Why a school street?
The purpose of this school street:
- better air quality
- less traffic at the school gate
- a safe school environment for pedestrians and cyclists
