Orange waste bag mandatory

From May 2023, some rules in rubbish collection will change: the orange bag (exclusively for organic kitchen waste) will become compulsory, and in Haren and Neder-Over-Heembeek, the collection of the white rubbish bags will only take place once a week from then on.

White bag?

The white bags are for residual waste (non-recyclable household waste).

Orange bag?

From May 2023, recyclable food waste belongs in the orange bag. Please note that bones and carcasses, oyster and mussel shells, nappies,... do not belong in the orange bags but should go in the white bag.

The orange bag is mandatory from:

  • 1 May for governments and businesses
  • 15 May for households

There is of course a risk that the organic waste will attract animals and that they will tear open the bags. To avoid this inconvenience, you can use an orange bin available free of charge at the Recyparks, as well as at the distribution point at the Quai de la Voirie 1 - 1000 Brussels on Tuesdays from 9 am till noon and Thursdays from 1 pm to 4 pm. However, you are requested to notify your arrival at:

Blue bag?

Plastic packaging waste should be deposited in the blue bag. This was allowed until now, but will become compulsory from 1 May 2023.

Green bag?

Garden waste should be disposed of in the green bag.
