Public peace

The City of Brussels has a public peace manager. This manager contributes to the quality of life in the city and is mainly concerned with cases of nuisance and incivilities in the centre of the city.

This manager is in contact with the local authorities, the police and the prevention service of Bravvo. The priorities of the manager:

  • prostitution in the Alhambra quarter
  • areas with a commercial and residential mix
  • disturbance in the party districts
  • ...

What problems?

Incivilities or 'uncivil behavior' may include insults, small vandalism, illegal dumping,...

Nuisance may include the problematic occupation of public space, disturbance of the peace, public drunkenness,...

Role as mediator

The manager acts as a mediator for all services and people dealing with nuisance:

  • police
  • government
  • prevention services
  • residents committees
  • associations
  • traders

Cooperation with police

In that work, the manager of public peace gets the assistance of a police officer. Together they combine preventive and repressive work against 'asocial behavior', under the joint authority of the Mayor. The manager of public peace is part of the Bravvo prevention service, under the supervision of the Department of Prevention and Participation.
