Coronavirus measures

The City of Brussels has taken several decisions in order to best respect the measures of the federal government in the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19). Please note: at the Administrative Centre & liaison offices, all citizens are asked to come alone, maximum 15 minutes before the appointment time, wear a face mask (obligatory) and disinfect their hands.

 

Redevelopment of the Porte d'Anvers

The City of Brussels is planning a complete reconstruction of the Porte d'Anvers - Antwerpsepoort. The works are scheduled to start in the week of 5 January 2021, for a duration of approximately 6 months.

  • upgrading the public space
  • improving pedestrian space
  • ensuring a good flow of the various traffic flows

  • Relocation of the Villo station to the Rue des Commerçants (Koopliedenstraat)
  • New chip stall (fritkot)
  • Presence of a regional bicycle route via the Rue des Commerçants and intersection with the Rue de Laeken (Lakensestraat)
  • Bicycle stands + bicycle box and an opposite bicycle lane at the crossroads
  • Existing parking spaces between the Rue des Commerçants and KVS will disappear
  • Fountain in the north of the square (to emphasize the symmetry of the square)

  • Works on the uneven side of the Rue de Laeken to the Boulevard d'Anvers, the square is not accessible
  • Duration: 6 to 8 weeks

  • Works on the even side of the Rue de Laeken (to the Rue des Commerçants) + works on the square to the Boulevard d'Anvers, the square is not accessible
  • Duration: 6 to 8 weeks

  • Asphalting the road from the Rue de Laeken to the Boulevard d'Anvers
  • Duration: 2 to 3 days

Car and bicycle traffic diversion (PDF, 89.62 KB) (during the phases 1, 2 and 4):

  • Traffic leaving the Pentagon (city centre): closed from the Rue de Laeken - Rue des Echelles crossroads, turn left towards the Quai au Foin, turn right towards the Quai du Commerce and go up towards the Place de l'Yser
  • Secure access guaranteed for pedestrians
