Registrations school year 2020-2021

The procedure of registration for schools in the City of Brussels is different according to the language of the school: Dutch-language or French-language.

The City of Brussels has French-language schools and Dutch-language schools. The procedure of inscription for both differ.

French-language schools

The recording of all the demands of registrations for the French-language schools (nursery and primary teaching) is centralized at the Department of Public Education and is done by telephone at:

  • 0800 99 855, from Monday till Friday from 8:30 am till 1 pm

The demands of registration take place in 3 phases:

1. From 2 till 20 December 2019, registration of the priority pupils by telephone

Priority pupils are those who:

  • have a brother/sister who frequents the same school
  • are in a reception class of the nursery school for the registration of the 1st nursery school in the same school (automatic registration, you do not have to phone)
  • are in 3rd nursery school in the school where they want to be registered for the 1st primary

Remark: the registrations for the priority children must be made from 2 till 20 December 2019, otherwise the priority will be lost.

From 6 January 2020, the school will contact the parents to confirm and formalize the definitive registration.

Any priority pupil is assured of having a place in this school. There is therefore no need to absolutely call during the first days of the opening of the call centre.

2. From 6 till 31 January 2020, all the demands of registration are registered according to the order of arrival by telephone

  • the parents are informed at once if their child is in order or on a waiting list
  • from the beginning of February 2020, the school will contact the parents to proceed to the definitive registration

3. From 1 February 2020, the demands of registration will be registered in the schools following the order of arrival

  • the parents are obliged to appear at the fixed meeting with the school to proceed to the definitive registration of the child, otherwise the demand of registration will be cancelled and the child will not be registered

Remark: in case of impossibility to appear at the meeting, the parents will have to address the direction of the school to obtain a mandate form.

Dutch-language schools

Registrations in Dutch-language schools are the same for the whole Brussels Capital Region. Following rules apply:
