Sign the petition to release Olivier Vandecasteele
Belgian Olivier Vandecasteele, who has been imprisoned in Iran since 24 February 2022, was sentenced to 40 years in prison and 74 lashes for espionage on Tuesday 10 January. All this while he has been working for a humanitarian organisation for years. He has since been imprisoned in very poor conditions.
Amnesty International and Olivier Vandecasteele's family have launched a major campaign to mobilise and pressure for Olivier's release.
As a Ville Lumière (City of Light), the City of Brussels wants to join this campaign. At its meeting on 13 February 2023, the City Council approved a motion (PDF, 340.12 KB) asking the Belgian government and the Belgian embassy in Iran to do everything possible to get Olivier Vandeasteele released and ensure that his detention conditions are improved.
