Statue of Jacques Brel at the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés

On Wednesday 11 October 2017, the City of Brussels unveiled a statue of singer Jacques Brel at the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés (Oud Korenhuis).

While Belgium is preparing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the death of Jacques Brel in 2018, the City of Brussels has installed a statue of the famous singer at the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés. This was done at the request of the trade association of the square, which is already the home of the Jacques Brel Foundation.

The bronze statue of artist Tom Frantzen entitled L'envol (The Flight) has been turned to the Rue du Chêne (Eikstraat) and shows a singing Brel behind his microphone with his arms wide open.
