Coronavirus measures

The City of Brussels has taken several decisions in order to best respect the measures of the federal government in the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19). More info: coronavirus measures by the City of Brussels.

Suspension of lessons at school

Due to restrictive measures by the National Security Council to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Public Education Department of the City of Brussels will suspend all educational activities from Monday 16 March until Friday 3 April 2020. The libraries will be closed to the public.

Childcare is organized for all children whose parents work and who cannot arrange day care other than by an older person. Public Education asks parents to consider this as a last resort.

  • in nursery and primary education: free supervision is provided according to the usual schedule (from 7 am to 6 pm)
  • at secondary schools: guidance is provided for the 1st degree between 7:45 am and 5 pm

During this period, school meals are canceled, no new subjects are given and no assessments are made.

Parents can contact us via:

  • 02 274 56 30 during opening hours (8:30 am - 4:30 pm)
  • 02 274 56 56 in an emergency or outside these hours

Extracurricular activities

All extracurricular and recreational activities are also suspended (youth centres, children's homes, academies...).
