Regulation for street artists

This page has been automatically translated from French into English by a translation software. Automatic translations are not as accurate as translations made by professional human translators. Nevertheless these pages can help you understand information published by the City of Brussels.

Every street artist has to obtain an authorization before starting his activities on the territory of the City of Brussels.

Who is 'a street artist'?

Every person who practises a public artistic activity in music, performing arts, plastic arts or circus. To exercise this activity on the public place, strict rules are to be respected.

Authorization

The street artist, before starting his activities, has to introduce a demand of authorization by means of a form delivered by the Culture Service. To receive its authorization, the applicant will have to answer one of the following conditions:

  • Be the owner of an artistic diploma
  • Have received a positive report of an artistic jury, which meets at least twice a year

Conditions of exercise

The authorization is free of charge. It is valid for a duration of one month and is renewable only 3 times a year. The artistic performances can only take place on the places defined by the College of Mayor and Aldermen (PDF, 0,02MB) and cannot take longer than 1 hour. The street artist cannot settle down near another artist.

The artistic performances cannot disturb the public tranquillity before 9 am in the morning, neither beyond 10 pm.

The street artist will take the necessary measures to keep his place clean and he will not disturb the law and order.

Attention: authorizations for activities with sound are only valid during the even hours: from 10 am to 11 am, from noon to 1 am, from 2 pm to 3 pm, from 4 pm to 5 pm, from 6 pm to 7 pm, from 8 pm to 9 pm.
