Every 2 years the Grand-Place of Brussels is covered with a flower carpet of begonias. The carpet of 70 m x 24 m is composed by about 120 volunteers, with nearly 1 million flowers in less than 4 hours.
Theme of the 2026 Flower Carpet

This year's event is dedicated to fostering dialogue between Belgium and Japan, to mark the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The design? Hokusai's 'The Great Wave of Kanagawa', reimagined in over 500,000 dahlias by Japanese artist Hiro Sugiyama and his collective Enlightenment.
And a major new feature: for the first time, a second flower carpet will be installed at the Bourse, inspired by hops - a symbol of Belgium's brewing heritage.
