The City of Brussels has inaugurated a new sports infrastructure at the Rue de Verdun in Haren. More than 2,688 m² of sports grounds have been developed for this neighbourhood in Brussels.
The entire sports zone includes:
- two multi-sports fields of almost 200 m² each
- a street workout area
- a petanque area
Everything is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Drinking fountain and trees
Water was also given an important place in the project: there is a drinking fountain for thirsty athletes and excess rainwater throughout the zone is easily absorbed by the soil without passing through the sewers. Besides an absorbent and permeable surface, there are other measures that are good for the climate. For instance, 17 new trees and a flower meadow were added.
