The City of Brussels grants a premium for connection to the public sewerage network, the installation of an autonomous treatment system (individual or collective) or the temporary use of a private waste disposal service.
Thanks to these interventions, residents of buildings that are not connected to the public sewerage system, in streets without facilities, can treat their domestic wastewater in accordance with water legislation.
Due to the evolution of legal obligations regarding wastewater management and environmental requirements regarding water quality, many septic tanks no longer meet current needs and more sustainable solutions are necessary.
That is why the City is helping you to manage your wastewater responsibly, through a municipal subsidy that supports you in financing a sustainable solution.
The subsidy is granted to residents (owners or tenants) of dwellings in the territory of the City of Brussels that are not connected to the sewerage system.
The operation of an autonomous treatment system requires an environmental permit.
The City reminds you that, in accordance with the ordinance of 20 October 2006 establishing a framework for water policy, any discharge of waste water without a permit is illegal and may give rise to prosecution.
The amount of the municipal premium is set at:
- For an autonomous treatment system: a maximum of 7,000 euros, depending on the capacity of the system, with a bonus of 750 euros if the system serves at least two dwellings.
- For the construction of a private sewerage network: a maximum of 6,250 euros, depending on the length of the network. This amount is increased by 10% if the network serves at least two dwellings.
- For a connection to the public sewerage network: a flat rate of 2,000 euros, or 3,000 euros if at least two homes are connected to the same private network.
- For a private service for clearing wells (until 3 December 2027): 80% of the cost price, with a maximum of 150 euros per year and per resident.
