Recently, one of the suppliers of the City of Brussels was hit by a cyber-attack, which possibly leaked personal data related to identification details. This data could then be made public and used illegally. The data relate to early childhood care.
After the City of Brussels was informed of this, an investigation was immediately launched with the supplier to find out the circumstances of this action, the extent of the leak and the type of data involved.
Meanwhile, all necessary preventive and corrective measures were taken, especially at the technical and organisational level. The necessary notifications and declarations were made to the relevant authorities (CCB, GBA).
In the meantime, we advise you to be careful. Some practical tips:
- Be vigilant: pay particular attention to e-mails or phone calls from strangers in the coming weeks. Never share your personal or financial information without checking the identity of the caller.
- Change your passwords: if you use the same passwords for different accounts, change them immediately.
