What is it about?
Tucked away in the heart of the Sablon neighbourhood, Lycée Henriette Dachsbeck, a French-language local authority secondary school currently accommodating 726 pupils, lacks the space to function properly. Partial renovation and extension of the school is designed to solve this problem while creating 130 additional places.
Planned actions include:
- Construction of a building overlooking Rue de la Paille, comprising a sports hall, gym, multi-purpose hall (refectory, study room), four new classrooms and a laboratory
- Renovation and extension of the building on the Rue de Ruysbroeck side to provide dedicated spaces for teachers, multi-purpose areas, a library and four laboratories
- Landscaping of the entire inner part of the block to increase the amount of green space
The City of Brussels wishes to optimise the use of its facilities for the benefit of its residents. It is therefore planned that the school's sports and multi-purpose facilities will be accessible to the public outside school opening hours, via a separate entrance.
What purpose?
This project meets the following ambitions and objectives:
- Rationalising the management and use of municipal sites by applying the concept of chrono-urbanism
- Addressing the lack of public facilities
- Developing a strategy to reduce soil sealing in the city of Brussels and make its public spaces and land greener
- Encouraging reconcentration of the city's facilities and services within multi-purpose, shared neighbourhood facilities hubs
- Converting municipal and public buildings into key players in improving the urban climate
- Enhancing the heritage identities of the Pentagon's neighbourhoods while strengthening their resilience to the risks of heat islands, flooding and deterioration in air quality, by focusing on both the buildings and the interiors of the blocks
