Each divorce judgment pronounced in Belgium will be entered in the Database of Acts of the Civil Registry (BAEC - DABS) by the court clerks.
The municipality still issues:
- or the marriage certificate stating the divorce if the marriage certificate is present in the Database of Acts of the Civil Registry (BAEC - DABS)
- or the divorce certificate if the marriage is not present in the Database of Acts of the Civil Registry
In the vast majority of cases, you will receive the marriage certificate stating the divorce.
Divorces pronounced abroad
The City of Brussels has jurisdiction for foreign decisions on divorce of citizens living on its territory (postal codes 1000, 1020, 1120 and 1130) and also for Belgians who were always registered abroad.
