What is it about?
The City of Brussels has acquired a plot of land near the Porte d'Anderlecht and Place Anneessens as part of its efforts to tackle the problem of vacant housing, with the aim of converting the site into housing. The site currently comprises a building at the rear of the plot, while traces of an old demolished building remain on the street frontage. The annex, built on 3 party boundaries at 4 storeys above ground level, is now disused.
The Property Management Agency of the City of Brussels is planning to create 6 homes and communal areas (bicycle storage, bin storage, communal areas,...). This includes the demolition of the rear building and the construction of a new building aligned with the street to fill the gap.
The aim is to offer quality housing with space, light, openness and privacy. The project aims to be exemplary in terms of energy performance, sustainability and circularity.
What purpose?
This project meets the following ambitions and objectives:
- To guarantee affordable housing for all
- To continue the fight against unoccupied/abandoned housing
- To address the lack of public facilities
- To provide suitable, secure bike parking facilities
- To transform municipal and public buildings into key players in improving the urban climate
