What is it about?
Rue Guimard, the historic axis of the European Quarter, links the Royal Park to Square Frère-Orban. It stands out for its quality views, its great width and its line of trees, as well as for its buildings of great heritage value.
This renovation project is part of the master plan drawn up by the City of Brussels to make the European Quarter greener. This plan promotes redevelopment principles aimed at integrating more vegetation into the public space, while ensuring a comfortable space for the various modes of active travel.
The development principles are as follows:
- To enhance the value of existing trees by demineralising their roots
- To replace transverse parking with longitudinal parking to encourage greenery and permeability
- To increase biodiversity
- To enhance our built heritage
What purpose?
This project meets the following ambitions and objectives:
- To develop the green network and support active modes of transport and biodiversity
- To improve the safety and quality of public spaces for the purposes of living and environmental resilience
- To speed up the development of a cycle network and provide appropriate bike parking facilities
- To develop a strategy to reduce soil sealing in the City of Brussels and make its public spaces greener
