Immersion education at French-language primary schools
In September 2021, the City of Brussels will start with immersion education in Dutch at the French-language Les Magnolias primary school. The project is part of the will to promote language learning, especially Dutch, by supporting new pedagogies.
After the primary school Charles Buls in the Marolles, the primary school Les Magnolias in the north of Laeken is now also offering immersion education in Dutch.
What is immersion education?
Immersion education immerses children in a different language. The children do not learn the language through vocabulary lists and grammatical rules, but rather in a fun and informal way. Without forcing them, they learn to speak another language: they will naturally do that, stimulated by listening, repetition and multilingual activities.
In these immersion education classes, 2 teachers, one French-speaking and the other Dutch-speaking, will work closely together to enable the child to learn both languages.
