What is it about?
The project to redevelop an area of concrete is part of the Bockstael Sustainable District Contract, which aims to make up for the lack of green spaces by creating local 'pocket parks' along the L28 railway lines.

Near the Bockstael metro station and railway station, the concrete that partially covers the SNCB platforms and tracks, adjacent to the new Citydev 'Vandergoten' apartment building, was until a few years ago an inaccessible residual space. A high wall, fitted with planters, blocked access from the boulevard. Behind this, at a lower level, was an area of wasteland along the railway tracks.
The project will focus on developing this area of concrete, which will house a landscaped garden not accessible to the public, nesting boxes, play equipment for toddlers, benches, bicycle racks and other facilities.
What purpose?
This project meets the following ambitions and objectives:
- To develop the green network and support active modes of transport and biodiversity
- To rebalance and diversify the uses of public spaces
- To improve the safety and quality of public spaces for the purposes of living and environmental resilience
- To finalise the networking of existing open spaces within the region
- To create wildlife-friendly facilities in public spaces
- To provide suitable cycle parking facilities
- To develop a strategy to reduce soil sealing in the City of Brussels and make its public spaces greener
- To strengthen the resilience of the Molenbeek catchment basin in light of the growing risk of flooding by preserving existing green areas and incorporating rainwater management into development policies in an optimum manner
- To respond to the shortage of play areas
