Low Emission Zone

The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is applied in Brussels since 1 January 2018. This measure prohibits certain vehicles to drive in Brussels. The LEZ is applied all days of the week, 24 hours a day, on the entire territory of the Brussels Capital Region.

For all details about the LEZ - Low Emission Zone:

If you come by car or van, check here if your vehicle can circulate within the LEZ:

If your car is not allowed, there are External site transit car parks (CERIA-COOVI, Kraainem or Stalle) at the entrances to Brussels and External site alternatives to the car.

The purchase of a pass for one day is possible to circulate in Brussels (maximum of 8 days/year). More information about this pass on:

The purchase of the Brussels pass is not valid for access to the Antwerp LEZ.

Vehicles registered abroad must be registered before entering the territory of Brussels (information to be provided: type of vehicle, Euro standard and fuel).

  • registration is free
  • the registration must be made via the official website External site Lez.brussels
  • any non-registered vehicle is liable to a fine of 150 euros
  • currently, the registration of a vehicle for access to the City of Antwerp is not valid in Brussels, it is necessary to provide a separate registration

Vehicle control is done by camera. The fine for non-compliance with the LEZ access rules is 350 euros.

It is important not to rely on websites offering you the purchase of stickers that are neither necessary nor valid to circulate in the LEZ of Brussels. Only the purchase of a day pass is not free of charge and must be done via the site External site Lez.brussels. All other procedures relating to the LEZ (request for exemption, registration of vehicles registered abroad) are free and must be done via External site Lez.brussels.
