'Livre des Éternels': stories of elderly people at the Marolles

The Livre des Éternels is the result of the work of the association À Travers les Arts and photographer Vincen Beeckman, as part of the Marolles sustainable district contract.

The original aim of this initiative was to combat the isolation and exclusion of older people in the Marolles by giving them access to the practice of arts through photography, visual arts and writing workshops.

Due to the corona crisis, workshops in rest homes and day centres were no longer possible. Therefore, the hosts went directly to the elderly, while staying on the doorstep. In this way, they initiated exchanges and collected their life stories.

These workshops, which were originally supposed to culminate in a six-monthly illustrated magazine, eventually led to a book. That book Livre des Éternels was distributed to the elderly in February 2021:
