'Petit Chemin Vert' master plan in Neder-Over-Heembeek

'Petit Chemin Vert' master plan in Neder-Over-Heembeek

The City of Brussels has approved the 'Petit Chemin Vert' (Korte Groenweg) master plan for Neder-Over-Heembeek. This strategic document sets out a long-term vision for one of the last large open spaces in Brussels, reconciling landscape preservation, climate resilience, agriculture, soft mobility and quality of life. The plan was developed in close collaboration with local stakeholders.

What is a master plan?

A master plan is a strategic plan that defines an overall vision for the future development of an area. It sets out a framework to guide future projects, taking into account the landscape, the environment, mobility, uses and social dynamics.

What is the Petit Chemin Vert area?

The master plan covers an area of approximately 100 hectares around the Petit Chemin Vert and Trassersweg in Neder-Over-Heembeek. This area is characterised by the richness and diversity of its landscapes: fertile agricultural land, wet valleys, wooded areas, sports grounds and facilities, business parks and open views over the Senne valley.

What are the ambitions of the master plan?

The Petit Chemin Vert master plan is based on several strong ambitions:

  • Preserving and enhancing the blue-green landscape
  • Recognising and supporting the productive function of the territory
  • Developing a high-quality living and housing environment by harmoniously combining sports, recreation, housing and landscaped areas
  • Improving connections by strengthening pedestrian and bicycle links

In order to ensure the execution of the master plan, the City of Brussels launches the development of a Special zoning plan (PPAS-BBP).
