Coronavirus measures

The City of Brussels has taken several decisions in order to best respect the measures of the federal government in the fight against the coronavirus (Covid-19). More info: coronavirus measures by the City of Brussels.

Summer sales 2020

In Belgium, a trader can only sell products under the name 'sales' ('solden' in Dutch, 'soldes' in French) twice a year. Both periods of sales are determined by law. Due to the coronavirus measures, the summer sales of 2020 will exceptionally run from 1 August to 31 August.

Those sales are the seasonal renewal of the range of the trader. This is done through an accelerated selling at lower product prices.

Waiting period before sales

Before the start of the sales there is a waiting period. During this waiting period, it is legally prohibited by law to have sales in the clothing, footwear and leather sector.

As the 2020 summer sales have been postponed to August, the waiting period will exceptionally run from 1 to 31 July 2020.

The winter sales take place from 3 to 31 January. If the starting date is on a Sunday, the bargains may start the day before.
