What is it about?
Close to the Place Anneessens, the Property Management Agency of the City of Brussels aims to revitalise a degraded urban space by constructing 12 public housing units. This project is part of a sustainable development and neighborhood rehabilitation initiative, aiming to provide high-quality housing while respecting the architecture and history of the location.

The project consists of two distinct buildings, separated by a central space that will include a staircase leading to a walkway at the back. All circulation occurs outdoors, thus offering a direct connection between the different levels. The programme includes the construction of 5 studios, 1 one-bedroom apartment, and 6 two-bedroom apartments.
The new facades of the Rue des Vierges are directly inspired by the divisions of the former parcel layout, creating a visual continuity with the past while asserting modernity in the design. The use of the roof slopes as a distinctive architectural element emphasises verticality and provides generous volumes for the housing, bringing both light and space.
Regarding environmental impact, the project includes ecological measures such as a rainwater tank and a private storm basin. These systems will collect rainwater to supply taps dedicated to the maintenance of outdoor spaces, contributing to sustainable water management.
Finally, the unbuilt surfaces will be planted and drained to promote local biodiversity and optimise rainwater management.
What purpose?
This project meets the following ambitions and objectives:
- To guarantee affordable housing for all
- To transform municipal and public buildings into key players in improving the urban climate
