Aerial thermal imaging returns to the City of Brussels

Aerial thermal imaging returns to the City of Brussels

During the night of 18-19 March 2026, an aircraft will fly over Brussels, Etterbeek and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert in the middle of the night to update the aerial thermal imaging of our roofs.

The aim: to measure heat loss from buildings and identify where insulation could be improved. It's good for the environment... and even better for your bills.

How does it work?

  • A specialist company will fly over the area with an infrared camera.
  • The (single) flight takes place between late February and late March, as soon as the weather is ideal: cold, dry and with little wind.
  • The flyover may cause a slight noise as the aircraft passes overhead, but this will be very brief.
  • To ensure the measurements are reliable, please do not change your heating habits during this period.

What happens next?

The data will be analysed by the 'Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais'. You will be able to find out the results and their interpretation in autumn 2026, during information sessions open to the public.

Thermography 2023

In the meantime, you can always consult the 2023 thermography (valid if you have not changed your insulation since then):
