Bonus for a rain barrel

The City of Brussels grants a premium for the purchase and installation of a rainwater barrel connected to a downspout. This installation (barrel, vessel,...) is designed to collect or store rainwater that falls on the roof of a home located on the territory of the City of Brussels.

Tasks such as watering the garden, vegetable garden or indoor plants, maintenance and cleaning of the house, car, tools,... do not require potable water.

A rainwater barrel has the advantage of being very easy to install and does not require the intervention of a professional.

The premium is granted to any natural or legal person who has realised the investment in the property to which the installation relates and which is located on the territory of the City of Brussels.

The amount of the municipal premium is set at 50% of the cost of the purchase and installation, with a maximum of 700 euros.

A bonus of 10% of the purchase and installation costs may be granted if the application meets one of the following conditions:

  • the works are carried out in their entirety by a social economy enterprise, customisation enterprise or social inclusion enterprise, or
  • the works are carried out in a property intended for rental (owner not domiciled in the property) for a minimum period of 5 years

Complete the application form (1.28 MB) for the municipal premium and send it, along with the required documents, to urb.primes@brucity.be within 3 months of purchasing the rainwater barrel or completing the works.

  • Photos before, during and after the installation (showing the connected roof, overflow system, downspout and tap and location of the barrel), and optionally: sketch, photo, plan, diagram, drawing showing this information
  • Copy of invoices from the contractor who carried out the works (name of the client, address of the location of the works, name of the client/applicant)
  • Copy of invoices if the applicant carried out the works himself (purchase or hire of equipment)
  • Extract from the bank account (proof that the invoices have been paid)
  • If the application is submitted by the tenant of the property, the owner's consent to carry out the works and his or her commitment to keep the installation in perfect condition for at least 10 years
  • If applicable, proof that the property is rented out (rental contract)
