The City of Brussels has a policy to reduce waste and ban single-use plastic at events. It therefore encourages organisers of events in public spaces to favour the use of reusable packaging. To this end, it works with the non-profit organisation Rock the City, which offers a service for lending or renting reusable cups and crockery.
Anyone organising a public or private event in the Brussels Capital Region can contact Rock the City to borrow or rent reusable packaging.
Rental (general case)
Packaging is available for hire by default at the rates listed in Rock the City's catalogue (cups, plates, bowls,...).
Requests should be sent to Rock the City within the deadlines indicated below.
Free loan (specific cases)
A free loan may be considered within the limits of the available budget, provided the packaging is used exclusively in one of the following cases:
- Events organised by the City of Brussels or a municipal non-profit organisation of the City
- Events receiving a subsidy from the City of Brussels
- Non-commercial events organised on the public roads of the City of Brussels and pre-approved by the municipal administration
Packages are delivered in sealed boxes. After the event, they may be returned dirty: cleaning must be carried out by Rock the City or by an appointed external service provider.
This cleaning will be invoiced at cost price and the applicable rate will be stated in the quote prepared at the time of application.
Requests should be sent directly to Rock the City:
- at least 14 calendar days before the start of the event for all applications with more than 20,000 packages
- at least 5 calendar days for applications for 20,000 packages or less
Send your application by e-mail to the non-profit organisation Rock the City:
