Change of address

Are you moving to a new address located within the City of Brussels? You have to declare your new address within 8 working days taking up residence.

  1. Your new address must be located within the City of Brussels
  2. You must actually be living in the property

Good to know!

You can't register a change of address in advance.

You have to wait until you are actually living in the new property before declaring a change of address.

Are you moving as a family?

Only one adult needs to declare the change of address for the whole household.

If you are separated with minor children:

They must be registered at the address of the parent with whom they live most of the time.

If you have 50/50 shared custody, you can decide which address to register them at.

If you cannot reach an agreement, the local authorities will decide for you based on the order below:

  1. The address provided in the custody order
  2. If there is no custody order, the address where your children were living first
  3. If your children no longer live at this address, at the address of the parent who receives family allowance benefits
