Rue Haute-Seigneur project - Development of public transitional housing

What is it about?

The Public Welfare Centre (CPAS-OCMW) of the City of Brussels plans to renovate a complex of buildings near the Brigittines Park. The complex has an L-shaped configuration and extends between the Rue Haute and Rue Notre-Seigneur, creating a dual connection with the surrounding urban fabric.

Formerly occupied largely by commercial activities, the building will undergo a complete renovation aimed at improving its architectural quality, comfort and energy performance. The project also includes an extension at the top level in order to optimize the available floor area and increase the site's accommodation capacity.

The ground floor will retain its commercial function, helping to maintain the vitality of the neighbourhood and supporting local economic activity. The upper floors will be converted into transitional housing units, providing temporary accommodation adapted to the needs of people supported by the CPAS.

In total, the project provides for the creation of 15 transitional housing units:

  • 2 three-bedroom apartments
  • 8 two-bedroom apartments
  • one one-bedroom apartment
  • 4 studio apartments

This variety of housing types makes it possible to respond to a wide range of family situations and temporary housing needs.

Particular attention is also being paid to the project's energy and environmental performance. The building envelope will be significantly improved through enhanced thermal insulation, helping to reduce energy consumption and improve occupant comfort.

An extensive green roof will be installed on the section facing the Rue Notre-Seigneur. It will contribute to better rainwater management, improved thermal comfort and enhanced urban biodiversity. The roof will also get photovoltaic solar panels.

The project is therefore fully aligned with a sustainable approach aimed at reducing its environmental footprint while ensuring a high level of energy performance.
