Are you a national of a country outside the European Union and are you coming to study in Belgium? Complete your first registration on the basis of a C visa, a visa exemption or a European residence permit.
If you are coming to Belgium to study with a C visa, a visa exemption or a European residence permit, you must declare your arrival and register with the municipality of your place of residence.
Contact your municipality as soon as possible after your arrival to complete this procedure.
The arrival declaration allows you to submit a residence application and to legally reside in Belgium for the duration of your studies, if the Immigration Office approves your application.
- Be a national of a country outside the European Union
- Be a student
- Have your main residence on the territory of the City of Brussels
- Be enrolled in an educational institution
- Hold a valid C visa (or a visa exemption) or a valid European residence permit
1. Make an appointment
By e-mail to student@brucity.be with the following information:
- Subject of the e-mail: Student - C visa or no visa
- Contact details: last name, first name, date and place of birth
- Copies of the required documents
- Address of residence
2. Attend your appointment
Bring all the required documents to your appointment in order to obtain the arrival declaration (Annex 3).
3. Residence check
The police will carry out a residence check to verify that you are actually living at the declared address.
If the check is positive, you will receive Annex 33ter by e-mail. This document confirms that your application has been registered.
4. Decision of the Immigration Office (IO)
Your application is then forwarded to the Immigration Office for review.
5. Apply for your A residence card
If there is no negative decision from the Immigration Office, a new appointment will be scheduled for you to apply for your A card.
