Non-EU foreigner - Card for children under 12 years of age

If your child is from outside the European Union and is under the age of 12, you can apply for an electronic residence card for him or her.

The card is not required, but is required for travel abroad, together with a valid national passport as proof of legal residence in Belgium.

The type of card and the period of validity of the child's card is linked to that of the parent, but may not exceed 3 years.

Even if the child reaches the age of 12, the card remains valid until its expiry date.

  • Be a citizen of a country outside the European Union
  • Be over 12 years old
  • Having your main residence on the territory of the City of Brussels
  • Have one or more parents holding a Belgian residence permit of type A, B, K, L or M

The child must be accompanied by his/her parent(s) or legal guardian when applying for the electronic residence permit. Their presence is not required for collection.

Card application

Only by appointment (except for applications under the urgent procedure), at the counter of the Brucity Administrative Centre or at the liaison office of Louise, by e-mail: foreigners@brucity.be

Card collection

Without an appointment at the counter where the application was submitted, on receipt at home of the PIN code sent by the FPS Home Affairs.

The child must be present when applying for the card.

Card application

  • Old identity card or certificate of loss/theft if applicable
  • A recent passport photo (maximum 6 months old) in accordance with External site ICAO standards

Card collection

  • Old identity card or certificate of loss/theft if applicable
  • New PIN code sent to your home address by the FPS Home Affairs

If the PIN code does not arrive at home within 3 weeks, a new order can be placed via the website of the External site FPS Home Affairs.

  • Normal procedure: 10 euros
  • Urgent procedure: 150 euros

  • Normal procedure: 2 to 3 weeks
  • Urgent procedure: the next day, if the request is made before 3 pm. Outside the opening hours of the administration, you can, on request, collect your card at the FPS Home Affairs, located at Rue des Colonies 11 - 1000 Brussels.
