Placement of 7 'UNESCO World Heritage' logos

In 2018, the Grand-Place will be on the World Heritage List for 20 years. To celebrate this anniversary, the City of Brussels organizes a whole series of events. The first in line is the placement of 7 logos around the Grand-Place that refer to the World Heritage status. The placement of the bronze plates started on Monday 19 March and should take another two weeks.

Exactly 20 years ago the exceptional universal value of the Grand-Place of Brussels was officially recognized by the UNESCO. To celebrate this anniversary, the City of Brussels, following the example of Bath in Great Britain, took the initiative to anchor seven logos in brushed bronze in the ground, at the spot where the seven streets leading to the Grand-Place meet the square.

Events to celebrate '20 years of World Heritage'

The placement of the logos is part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the registration of the Grand-Place on the World Heritage List. This event is celebrated throughout the year with even more events:

  • 21 March 2018. Publication of the book The T'Serclaes monument, restoration and legends
  • 26 April 2018. Organization of a symposium with the theme The City Hall of Brussels: three years of construction study
  • June 2018. Placement of a copy of the Saint-Nicholas statue on the house number 7 Le Renard on the Grand-Place
  • 3 October 2018. Inauguration of the exhibition at the City Museum on 20 years of the Grand-Place on the World Heritage List
