Van Gaver project - Development of student housing (completed)

What is it about?

The Public Welfare Centre of the City of Brussels (CPAS -OCMW) acquired the building, located a few steps from the Flemish Theatre, in June 2021 as part of the 'PDV 2017-2020' project (City Policy). This acquisition was entirely financed by these subsidies, with the aim of developing student accommodation.

The CPAS regularised and transformed the existing building to create 5 student flats, including a studio, managed by the A.I.S.E. (Agence Immobilière Sociale Etudiante). The ground floor has been converted into a communal area with a kitchen, dining room and living room, encouraging interaction and conviviality between residents. This type of accommodation offers students an affordable living environment, while promoting their integration into society.

In terms of improving energy performance, the rear façade has been insulated, and some windows and the communal condensing gas boiler have been replaced.

What purpose?

This project meets the following ambitions and objectives:

  • Guaranteeing affordable housing for all
  • Transforming municipal and public buildings into key players in improving the urban climate
