Exhibition 'When balle pelote took over Brussels! 150 of the ball game in the capital'.
Balle pelote has been a quintessential part of life in Brussels for the past 150 years. A descendant of a medieval form of handball known as 'jeu de paume', this sport pits two teams of 5 players against each other striking the ball with their hands, right in the city's public squares.
Silver trophies, drawings, paintings and vintage photographs: discover how this iconic game has shaped the urban landscape, from the Grand-Place to the Square Riga. A tradition still very much alive today, especially with the annual tournament held at the Grand-Place at the end of July.
