Bicycle library bonus under 16 years

Bicycle library bonus under 16 years

Is your child between 2 and 15 years old and would you like him/her to have an age-appropriate bike, completely free of charge? As part of its Climate Plan, the City of Brussels grants a 'bicycle bonus' to young cyclists aged 2 to 15 to support them and/or their parents with the costs of cycling.

This measure also fits within a circular economy approach and provides an appropriate solution for young children, whose needs change every year.

To qualify for the municipal premium, a number of conditions must be met:

  • The young person and parent must be domiciled on the territory of the City of Brussels
  • The young person must be between 2 and 15 years old
  • The premium can be used each year to start or renew an annual subscription at one of the City's partner cycle libraries

The amount of the premium covers the subscription for one year, meaning the service is free for both the parent and the young cyclist and fully covered by the premium.

What's more, the parent does not have to pay anything upfront - the bike library takes care of everything.

Please note: all other costs, such as in case of loss, theft or damage, are not covered by the premium. The same also applies to any deposit required by the bike library.

Go to the nearest participating bike library, register with it and fill in the municipal premium application form that the bike library will give you.

When you visit the bike library of your choice, bring all the documents it can use to verify your eligibility for the premium (address, date of birth, first and last name,...). The bike library advances the premium amount so that you can immediately use the service free of charge. Therefore, it reserves the right to refuse to advance the premium in case of reasonable doubt about your eligibility.

The parent may provide this information for both themselves and the child by any means that enables the bike library to reasonably verify the information provided in the form:

  • an identity card
  • an official document (driving licence, MOBIB card,...)
  • a document that reasonably provides a guarantee (school diary, professional badge, business card,...). In this case, the validity of the document is at the discretion of the bike library, which bears the financial risk in case of fraud.

The City may take legal action against any person who deliberately tries to mislead a bike library to obtain a premium unlawfully.
