2025: Year of Art Deco in Brussels

This year, Brussels celebrates 100 years of Art Deco, including a special event in the Cemetery of Brussels, in the green surroundings of Evere. For the 4th edition of Cemeteries' Spring, (re)discover this exceptional place.

Much more than a final resting place, the Brussels Cemetery is an impressive open-air museum of almost 38 hectares, where architecture, art and nature blend seamlessly.

Funerary heritage and nature

Stroll among the monumental tombstones in typical Art Deco style, discover hidden stories and immerse yourself in the live performances that add to the magic of the place.

Whether you are passionate about history and architecture, love the tranquility of nature or enjoy exploring with the whole family, this event brings it all together in one special place.

Programme:

Join one of the fascinating guided tours where Epitaaf guides will take you past the architectural gems of the Art Deco cemetery. Fascinating anecdotes will be told along the way and at several stops you will be surprised by unique artistic interludes.

At the end of the walk, you can roll up your sleeves and take part in a braiding workshop and contribute to the participatory artwork 'Le Passage' by artist Aline Steen.

Practical info:

For those who prefer to walk at their own pace, there is a themed map available at the entry with an inspiring route past typical Art Deco monuments.

Visiting the cemetery with children? You can discover this unique place in an unusual way by following a game trail. Take your family on a voyage of discovery through the history of Brussels and the city's burial heritage. Download the trail on your smartphone or ask for a booklet at the reception.
