Climate Plan - Youth
With more than 42,000 children under the age of 17 living within its borders, as well as around a hundred nurseries, kindergartens and primary schools, more than 30 secondary schools, universities, colleges and arts establishments, the City of Brussels is a city of youth.
The Climate Plan devotes a specific section to them in order to:
- Protect them from health risks
- Raise their awareness and mobilise them to become partners in the fight against climate change
- Welcoming them to exemplary locations and reinforcing the sharing of knowledge between those who work there
Main objectives for youth
Targets for 2030:
- 100% of the City's nurseries use washable nappies
- 100% of food for children is organic, local and in season
- 0 PMC in the regular activities of schools and crèches
For the municipality:
- Installing bicycle parking facilities in all schools in the City's network
- Using furniture from the circular economy in schools in the City's network
- Increasing the number of eco-crèches that have one or more 'bébébus'
- Recycling organic waste in 100% of the eco-crèches
- Allocating 85% of the games and toys budget to the purchase of sustainable toys
For all the people of Brussels:
- Organising exchanges of school equipment and recycling libraries
