F card (family member of an EU citizen)

The F card is a residence document issued to family members of a citizen of the European Union or assimilated (national of Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway), over 12 years of age, who have applied for residence in the context of family reunification with a citizen of the European Union (or assimilated).

Equipped with an electronic chip, the card data can be read by means of a card reader and allows you to:

  • have access to online services (MyBXL, Tax-on-web, many e-government applications)
  • sign documents electronically

  • Be a family member of an EU citizen or assimilated
  • Have your main residence on the territory of the City of Brussels
  • Be over 12 years old (if under 12 years of age, apply for an identity certificate for a foreigner under 12 years old) 

You must present yourself personally both for the application and for the collection of the residence card (for the taking and verification of fingerprints).

  • Application for the residence card: only by appointment (except for requests under very urgent procedure), at the counter of the Administrative Centre of the City of Brussels or the liaison office of Louise
  • Collection of the residence card: without an appointment at the counter where the application was submitted. 

  • National passport or national identity card
  • Certificate of registration (orange card)
  • 1 recent (6 months maximum) External siteICAO compliant passport photo 

Normal procedure: 30 euros (over 12s), 12 euros (under 12s)
Urgent procedure: 150 euros

Additional charges in the event of repeated loss or theft:

Renewal following a 2nd loss/theft: 60 euros 
Renewal following a 3rd loss/theft: 150 euros

Normal procedure: 2 to 3 weeks

Very urgent procedure: the next day, if the request is submitted before 3 pm. Outside the opening hours of the administration, you can, on express request, collect your card at the FPS Home Affairs, located at Rue des Colonies 11 - 1000 Brussels.
